More on Dengue…

February 27th, 2009

Anecdotal news that drinking the juice of raw papaya leaves will also cure dengue fever. leavesjpg2

Accordingly it is raw papaya leaves, only the leafy part and no stem or sap. Take 2 leaves –  just  clean, pound and squeeze them with a filter cloth. You will only get  one tablespoon per leaf. So two tablespoon per serving once a day.  Do not boil or cook or rinse with hot water, it will lose its  strength. Only the leafy part and no stem or sap. And the best part? – it’s very bitter!

Patience and the art of moving premisis

February 26th, 2009

paintWell as many of you know the Cairns Yoga Academy is moving and should have in fact already be settled in to its new home at 142 Grafton Street. Alas the renovations are taking longer than anticipated and we are still in Edge Hill

The new date we have been given is first week in March…Naturally we’ll keep you up to date both here and  via our newsletter.

While the tradeswomen and tradesmen are doing their utmost to get it finished in time Ian & Rich are busy building a reception desk and installing a wonderful observation window in the  wall of studio 1. Susi is naturally waiting ‘patiently’ until she can let fly with her fabulous interior decorating skills .

So fingers cross that we will see you in the new studio before long.

Sweet potatoes, a cure for dengue?

February 25th, 2009

We need not do research deep in the rainforests of the Amazon or venture into the ocean depths in search of the elusive cure for dengue. It is right there in the backyard.

The following information is from Wikipedia:

“In 1992, the Center for Science in the Public Interest compared the nutritional value of sweet potatoes to other vegetables. Considering fiber content, complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins A and C, iron and calcium, the sweet potato ranked highest in nutritional value. According to these criteria, sweet potatoes earned 184 points, 100 points over the next on the list, the common potato (NCSPC).

“…Sweet potato tops are excellent sources of antioxidative compounds, mainly polyphenolics, which may protect the human body from oxidative stress that is associated with many diseases including cancer ad car! diovascular diseases. Sweet potato greens have the highest content of total polyphenolics among other commercial vegetables studied.

“Sweet potatoes contain protein, dietary fiber, lipid, and essential minerals and nutrients such as calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, sodium, potassium, sulfur, iron, copper, zinc, manganese, aluminum and boron. Sweet potatoes are also important sources of vitamin A, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin and ascorbic acid.

Camote (=Sweet Potato)

Camote tops are boiled in water to extract the juice. The boiling lasts for about five minutes. A little salt is used to give flavor to it. The patient is made to drink slowly and gradually. The body’s immunity system is thus revived, making dengue helpless against the body’s natural defenses. Camote enables the body to heal itself.
